  1. Role Purpose

JOB CONTENT

The Chief Projects & Technical Officer (CPTO) is responsible for the planning, delivery, and assurance of the company's major mining and processing projects. The role oversees the entire project lifecycle from feasibility through execution and handover, ensuring adherence to Stage-Gate governance, cost, schedule, quality, and safety standards. The CPTO ensures operational readiness, embeds technical excellence, and drives capital discipline across all development projects.

 

  1. Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Strategic & Technical Leadership
  • Develop and implement the company'’s project delivery strategy and technical governance framework.
  • Oversee the full project lifecycle (Gates 3–5), from feasibility through engineering, execution, and handover.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical assurance across engineering, design, and construction disciplines.
  • Foster innovation, continuous improvement, and integration of global best practices in project management.
  1. Project Studies & Delivery
  • Lead the development and delivery of feasibility and engineering studies, ensuring technical and economic integrity.
  • Coordinate EPC/EPCM contractors, engineering consultants, and project management firms.
  • Manage project execution for key assets and other priority developments.
  • Ensure robust risk identification, mitigation, and management across all active projects.
  • Oversee commissioning, handover, and operational readiness in coordination with asset owners.
  1. Project Controls & Readiness
  • Establish and maintain cost, schedule, and performance baselines for all projects.
  • Implement project control systems and dashboards for transparent reporting and decision-making.
  • Lead project risk and change management processes in coordination with Finance and Governance.
  • Plan and oversee operational readiness programs to enable smooth transition to operations.
  1. Technical Governance & Assurance
  • Provide oversight of engineering quality, standards, and design integrity across all projects.
  • Review and validate technical studies, designs, and engineering deliverables prior to execution.
  • Champion lessons learned, value engineering, and sustainability integration.
  • Ensure that all projects meet regulatory, environmental, and permitting requirements.
  1. Governance & Compliance
  • Maintain transparent reporting to the CEO and the Board on project performance and risks.
  • Collaborate with CFO and CGPO on investment papers, cost validation, and Gate approvals.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and ethical conduct across project teams.

Accountable – leads project execution, engineering, cost, schedule, and quality assurance.

Responsible – ensures commissioning, operational readiness, and lessons learned documentation.

 

  1. Minimum Qualification & Experience:
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mining, Mechanical, Civil, or Process Engineering preferred).
  • 15 years of experience in major mining or industrial project delivery, including at least 7 years in executive or senior leadership roles.
  • Proven record in managing large-scale EPC/EPCM projects within mining, metals, or energy sectors.
  • Experience implementing Stage-Gate frameworks and technical governance systems.
  • Strong understanding of project finance, risk management, and operational readiness principles.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
